04 - Low Countries - Axis - Turn 19 of 30

May 10, 1940: flanking the heavy fortifications of the Maginot Line, the Germans invade France through Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Attack. Quick. Objectives, except for Luxembourg and Sedan, are in a double row. The ones in the south row, Namur, Maubeuge and Abbeville, are on a river, so it's better to attack them from both sides. The north row objectives, Brussels, Lille and Calais are easier to flank. Let the other towns be, take them only if they're empty.

TURN 1

AXIS - Attack Liege: level bombers on forts, Stuka on artillery, the tanks and infantry. Two forts and artillery eliminated. Head towards Givet, it's the key to attack Namur and Sedan from behind. Purchase two 15 sFH 18.

ALLIES - French fighter attacks Ju 88: 3 points loss. What a mistake I made! Nothing else.

TURN 2

AXIS - Liege is taken, defending infantry destroyed. Next objective Namur, defended by one infantry, three antitanks, one artillery.

ALLIES - Planes attack! Three aeromobiles attack german troops and cause quite a damage. Namur is reinforced with two more artilleries.

Casualties: Axis 0 - Allies 6 (2 infantry - 1 artillery - 2 fort - 1 fighter)

TURN 3

AXIS - Airport in 37.9 is occupied. Planes: french fighter is taken down and Potez and Hurricane are reduced to three strength points. Givet is taken destroying defending infantry. Units cross Meuse.

ALLIES - Planes flee. Two german units are hit by enemy artillery.

Casualties: Axis 0 - Allies 9 (3 infantry - 1 artillery - 1 antitank - 2 fort - 2 fighter)

TURN 4

AXIS - Airport in 29.1 is captured. Namur is heavily attacked, 2 artillery and 1 antitank are destroyed. The Hurricane is taken down. Sedan is going to be attacked, a fort is eliminated.

ALLIES - Enemy counterattacks, causing several points loss.
Casualties: Axis 0 - Allies 15 (4 infantry - 3 artillery - 2 antitank - 3 fort - 3 fighter)

TURN 5

AXIS - Namur is taken, defenders wiped out. Now it's up to Brussels where an antitank is destroyed. Sedan is attacked, an artillery, an antitank and another fort are killed.

ALLIES - Nearly nothing happens during enemy turn.
Casualties: Axis 0 - Allies 23 (5 infantry - 5 artillery - 6 antitank - 4 fort - 3 fighter)

TURN 6

AXIS - Brussels is attacked, an antitank is destroyed. Sedan is taken, an artillery, an infantry and an air defense are destroyed.

ALLIES - Enemy attacks causing some points loss.
Casualties: Axis 0 - Allies 26 (6 infantry - 5 artillery - 7 antitank - 1 air defense - 4 fort - 3 fighter)

TURN 7

AXIS - Brussels is taken and all defenders are wiped out except for an antitank which is reduced to 5 points strength. Charleroi is attacked but the enemy infantry unit stands the test as entrenchment is at level 7. The last enemy units defending Sedan are destroyed and the german units head towards next objective: Maubeuge.

ALLIES - I made an horrible mistake: moved expert infantry (12) too near Maubeuge, so enemy attacks and almost destroys it. Other german units are reduced in strength as they're too exposed. My fault.

TURN 8

AXIS - It's raining. I place some planes over Maubeuge to try to get advantage of next turn to evade enemy air defense. The remaining antitank unit in Brussels is destroyed. The units from Sedan are heading towards Maubeuge which is not an easy task, as there are two air defense. We'll proceed as usual hitting artillery first.

TURN 9

AXIS - Infantry lands in airfield near Ostend. Hirschon is conquered. Attack on Maubeuge begins, an infantry and an artillery units are severely damaged. Lille is scouted: seven units in defense.

TURN 10

Maubeuge is attacked, three units are destroyed, next turn it will fall. The french tank Ch B1-bis has destroyed an infantry unit, it will be hard to get rid of it. Maneuvre to flank Lile has begun.

TURN 11

Maubeuge has been conquered. Lille is attacked, an enemy artillery unit is destroyed and a german tank is adjacent to the objective to prevent the enemy to reinforce defenses. Enemy air defense takes down an infantry on aerial transport. My fault.

TURN 12

Lille is very hard to take. In the meanwhile, Arras is conquered.

TURN 13

Lille is about to fall but there are still six units defending it. Some units are already heading towards Abbeville where there's only one air defense, once this one is wiped out, the objective will be easy to take.

TURN 14

The battle for Lille is coming to an end, in the meanwhile Abbeville is attacked.

TURN 15

Lille is taken and all the enemy units are destroyed. Now Abbeville, the air defense is eliminated and the aerial attack begins.

TURN 16

Attack on Abbeville is going ok, objective has been cleared and next turn it will be occupied. Next step Calais, the final showdown.

TURN 17

Abbeville is captured, only one enemy anti tank unit remains in St. Valery. The bulk of the army will reach the final objective next turn.

TURN 18

St. Valery is taken. Calais is attacked, now one infantry unit is adjacent to the objective. A french Ch D1 IG tank approaches Lille. Some units go back to defend the city.

The enemy units which attacked Lille have been eliminated, and Calais is finally taken. Game over.
